Cosy Cottages Near St Andrews
The East Neuk of Fife is a beautiful corner of Scotland that is often overlooked by travellers who pass by on their way north. We would encourage you to visit this little gem in the ancient Kingdom of Fife as it is blessed with rugged coastlines, sandy beaches, forest walks, abundant, famous (probably the world's most famous) golf courses and ancient universities as well as castles, manor houses , Cold War relics and pre historic standing stones. In fact you can walk through time within East and North East Fife.
Fife is also a producer of much fine food and drink with distilleries such as Eden Mill Gin, and Kingsbarns, working fishing ports like Pitenweem and Anstruther delivering fresh seafood to its tables, acres of soft fruit production, multiple cheese producers and many fine farm shops selling local meat and vegetables.
The abundance of fresh produce transfers itself to the restaurants and eateries of Fife which range from some of Scotland's best restaurants such as the Michelin starred Peat Inn to award winning fish and chip shops such as Cromars in St Andrews and the Anstruther chippy.
Culture is not forgotten in Fife, as well as year round productions at places such as the Byre Theatre in St Andrews, the Adam Smith Theatre in Kirkcaldy and the original Carnegie Hall in Dunfermline there are numerous festivals throughout the year such as the Stanza International Poetry Festival, The Crail Food Festival and the Pitenweem and Largo arts festivals. For more information on festivals check out the Festivals in Fife website.
If you run out of things to do in Fife (which we doubt you will) Edinburgh is an hour away on the train from Leven and Dundee, with the V&A museum, the Discovery (Scotts Antarctic expedition ship) and Verdant Works museum are located, is a 40 minute drive. We are also an hour from Perth, the gateway to the Highlands and 90 minutes from the foot of the nearest Munro mountain in Glen Doll in the Cairngorms national park.
